The Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge

Conquer all 3 on a 12 hour walk 26 miles, Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge.

Yorkshire Dales Walk 1 Whernside

Starting at the Ribblehead Viaduct you follow the Settle to Carlisle railway. Until you meet an aqueduct on your left, and cross the railway. During the journey, you will pass the most remote railway signalling box in England.

This is one of my favourite walks. It’s gradual ascent allows for a steady but challenging climb to the summit.

Yorkshire Dales walk 2 Ingleborough from Clapham

Although this is the longest walk up Ingleborough it allows for a more gradual ascent, and more sights, like Gaping Gill a pothole with an enormous underground chamber large enough to fit the Nave of York Minster inside, the drop from the entrance is 100 meters and twice a year the public can go down when the Bradford and Craven pothole clubs set up a winch over the main shaft entrance. It’s an unforgettable experience. Do take care around the entrance as it’s not fenced off.

Walk 3

Pen-y-ghent

This is the smallest of the three peaks in the yorkshire dales national park, it starts in Horton in ribblesdale and ciculates over the top of Pen-y-ghent giving views over to Whernside and Ingleborough it starts off as a small pull up the road and ends with a scramble at the top.

Walk 4

Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge walk

Guide to be created

All three of the above peaks rolled into one long challenge, some say its harder than the national three peaks, however that is up for debate. This is a very long and strenuous walk, all three summits combined are of greater elevation than Ben Nevis so make sure to be prepared for it.
