Roseberry Topping
Parking can be found down side roads.
1) From the Esso garage turn right up the road following signs for Whitby
2) Turn right off the main road, and down the farm track with the metal gate.
3) Head over the railway bridge and up the hill.
4) Pass through the gate at the top of the hill as the road takes its first bend
5) Take the left path when it forks
6) The path forks again, take the left path.
7) Continue a short way and take the right path, up the hill.
8) Follow the path around to the left.
9) Ignore the path to the left that joins your path. Continue towards Roseberry topping.
10) Go down a small valley, and up some steps at the other side, continue for a short while until you reach a metal bench.
11) Go through the Gate next to the bench an head up the hill towards Roseberry topping.
12) Pass through the gate at the top of the hill. Looking over to your right you should now be able to see Captain cooks monument, follow the path around the right-hand side of Roseberry topping.
13) Head up the stone steps, all the way to the trigpoint.
14) Enjoy the 360° View at the top, head back down at the back of the hill follow the stone steps to the path adjacent to the wall/fence, and follow it left.
15) Go up the hill at the other side continuing to follow the stone wall which surrounds the edge of the North Yorkshire moors.
16) The path becomes flagged, follow it to a gate, this is part of the Cleveland way. Go through the gate and continue following path adjacent to the wall, the path changes back to dirt, then rocky, stay on this path for a long stretch (approximately 1.5KM).
17) Head down some stone steps to a car park, cross the carpark and head up the hill at the other side of the car park, passing through the gate.(follow signs for Cleveland way and Kildale 2½m)
18) Once at the top the path becomes flagged again, follow it up to the Monument.
19) At the monument turn right, following the path 45°s to the one you came up, and pass through 2 stone gate posts.
20) Follow the path adjacent to the broken-down wall.
21) The path forks head to the left down the hill and towards the woods.
22) Walk through the woodland, staying straight on the main path as you walk down the hill.
23) Walk out of the woodland, heading downhill a short while.
24) Go through a cutting in a gorse bush and turn right immediately after.
25) Continue towards Great Ayton, passing through a gate with a horse hurdle on the left.
26) Head down the lane a short way, then turn left after the first house. You will now be on a tarmacked road.
27) Continue down the lane, to a red gate, then cross over the railway bridge.
28) Follow the lane passing the Café and farm shop, adjacent to a small stream for a very short while, then the road leaves the stream, continue down the road, all the way to a T-Junction.
29 At the Red bridge turn right, continue down the road watching out for traffic.
30) At the roundabout take your second exit onto station road, following Signs for Stokesley, continue walking for a short while.
31) Turn right at the end of the road and follow until you reach a small roundabout head straight over the roundabout, continue straight and then bare right, following the road straight back to the Esso Garage.
