Quick Directions in BOLD

1) After parking up, head towards the Viaduct on the gravel road.

2) Take the footpath to the right, where the Sign post for Whernside is.

3) Follow the path keeping the train line on the left hand side, you will come across Blea Moor signal box which is the most remote in the country

4) Continue following the path from the signal box until you reach the Aqueduct this is where you and the river Force Gill cross the train line.

5) Once over the railway, pass through the gate, keep on this path until you see a sign post, then follow the sign for Dent Dale, climbing a few steps a little further on, you’ll be able to see Force Gill waterfall on your left.

6) Follow the path until you reach a wooden stile on your left, climb over it, following the path for Whernside and the Three Peaks.

7) Keep following the main winding path for a long time, towards Whernside, the path will become flagged as you start to climb.

8) The path runs parallel to a fence and wall as you climb up towards the summit. Once at the top you will need to go through the stone stile if you want to get to the trigpoint.

From the top: on a clear day you should be able to see Ingleborough and the Howgill Fells

9) From the trigpoint, come back through the stone stile and head right, following the path down off the back of Whernside.

10) Follow the path down a fair way until the path veers off the wall.

11) Keep following the gravel path off the mountain.

12) Pass through a few gates and keep walking straight on, the path becomes a little more level now.

13) You’ll reach a field with big boulders in, pass through the gate at the end.

14) On your left will be a barn, follow the sign post for Winterscales, going through the gate towards Ribblehead Viaduct and coming off the main Three Peaks route.

15) Follow the small track through the field, (usually filled with sheep) and pass through the gate at the other end, you should now have some lovely cottages to the left of you.

16) Continue following the footpath passed the cottages and into the field, towards the Viaduct.

17) Pass through two more gates and keep on walking across the field towards the buildings, you should be able to see a farm track, follow this, passing through another gate.

18) Keep on the path, towards the farm, pass through two more gates and into the farmyard, head towards the big barn at the end and you should see a sign post on your left.

19) Follow the sign post for Ribblehead Viaduct

20) Continue following the road and over a cattle grid, until you reach a T-junction, Follow the sign post for the Viaduct taking the road to the right and through the gate.

21) Follow the path toward another farm, pass through a gate and take the road to the left, and over the bridge, following the RibbleHead Viaduct sign.

22) Staying on the farm track as it bends around to the right, pass through another gate.

23) Follow the track back under the Viaduct.

24) Walking away from the Viaduct, follow the wide gravel road you first walked down as you were starting your walk.
