Note: If there’s snow or Icy on the ground, make sure to bring crampons, as it can be very slippery

Start) – Golden Lion Pub at Horton in Ribblesdale

1) As you walk out of the Pub car park, cross the road and follow the road towards Horton Beck. keeping the church on your left.

2) Cross the bridge then take your left immediately after towards Brackenbottom.

3) Follow the road for approximately half a mile, just before a barn, then take a left through a gate, following signs for Pen-y-ghent Summit.

4) You will be in a small field now, cross it and pass through the gate in the wall at the other end.

5) Take a left and follow the wall up some steps.

6) You will reach a donation box and a gate, consider donating as its costs approximately £35 per meter to look after the paths. Pass through the gate and continue following the wall.

7) Pass over a rocky outcrop and continue through another gate.

8) You will now reach a gravel path, continue following this path over some more limestone outcrops.

9) Pass through another gate and continue on the gravel path.

10) Follow some steps up towards a gate, pass through the gate and follow the path left. you’re now on part of the Pennine way.

11) The path now starts to climb considerably.follow the steps up.

12) When the steps end, follow the border of the grass, then come left and climb part of the limestone outcrop.

13) The path levels out a little for a moment. Then start climbing the other set of steps

14) As the steps disappear, keep going up, following the limestone outcrop, you will now need to scramble up the rocks, using your hands.

15) After the small scramble, the route levels out again, with flagstones under foot.

16) Follow the flagstones to the summit.

17) From the summit, pass through the gated style in the wall, following the Pennine Way, Yorkshire Three Peaks sign away from the wall.

18) Descend the flagstone steps, and follow the path dirt path.

19) Keep Descending the dirt path, passing a few cairns.

20) Follow the Signpost for Horton and ribblesdale as the path turns abruptly to the left.

21) Keep following the path for a long way, until you reach a gate, Pass through the gate and continue on the path a short way until you reach a cross pathway.

22) Follow the signpost for Pennine Way, taking a left and pass through the gate.

Note: If you follow the sign for Foxup, it will take you to Hull Pot not too far from the main route, Hull pot is a large natural hole 91 meters long 18 meters deep and 18 meters wide, take care around Hull pot as there are steep drops.

23) Follow the enclosed walled track for a long while.

24) Pass through the gate and continue on the enclosed walled track.

25) Pass through another gate and continue on the walled track.

26) The path splits, take the right road and pass through the gate.

27) once at the main road, take a left until you reach the Golden Lion pub.
